If you love the look of brand new hardwood flooring, then that might have been enough to convince you to get rid of your carpeting. Even though hardwood floors are beautiful, you want to make sure they stay that shiny and appealing for years to come. Your solution is to lay down some carpets on top of them. Here are some helpful tips for taking care of both kinds of flooring when you use them together.
Using Vacuums
When you need to use vacuums to clean your floors, versatility is the name of the game. One of the most common vacuum cleaners you’ll see on the market is called the upright vacuum cleaner. You stand these up before you start pushing them around your floors.
Did you know you can use them on both your hardwood floors and your carpets? You only have to change settings. A spinning brush may or may not be a standard feature, but that’s what you will need to use on a carpet. Using this same feature on your hardwood may leave unsightly gouges and scratches by accident. Don’t forget about the hose attachments! You can use these hoses to clean the hardwood on your stairs, too.
Canister Vacuums
You could also consider using canister vacuum cleaners on your flooring – while it’s true that these work best on your hardwood flooring, they are also suitable for cleaning up your carpets. After all, you might have carpet in harder to reach spots around your home, and since the canister vacuums are easier to move, you might have better luck with these vacuums instead.
Robotic Vacuums
Sometimes, you’ll be too busy with other tasks to have much time for vacuuming your floors. Luckily, that’s why robotic vacuums are such great inventions. Have your kids and pets chase them around or have these chase your kids and pets – the entertainment value is endless! The vast majority of robotic vacuums are optimized for use on hardwood floors, but they can also be used on tile and laminate. That said, there are some you can use on your carpets too. Either way, you should make sure that it comes equipped with what is known as a rubber carpet agitator. This device scoops up all the dirt, debris, and pet hair that makes your floors look messy. The important thing is to check on your little robot buddy and make sure it doesn’t get stuck anywhere along its route. While it might slide smoothly across your hardwood flooring, it could have more difficulty navigating your carpets.
